LUXURY RESORTS
  > The most luxurious, famous camps and resorts around

Tennis camps can range from a simple weekend’s training to week long escapes abroad with various luxuries included. Tennis holidays can be tailored to any need or budget – profiled below are some of the most luxurious, famous camps and resorts around.

La Manga, Spain

One of the biggest and most famous tennis resorts around, La Manga boasts 28 courts on a range of surfaces and begins with a video analysis of your technique. Mistakes in your technique are then rectified during the course, which typically lasts for five days. There is also a dedicated junior section and a crèche for families.

Accommodation ranges from straightforward apartments to luxury villas and the surrounding area features a spa and a golf course.

Windmill Hill, England

The ever so English Windmill Hill, set in a Georgian mansion and surrounding grounds, also features video analysis as part of its training package. It has been running since the 1980s, and the coaching (provided by a resident staff of professionals) is regarded as some of the best in the country. It has 14 outdoor courts and 4 indoor courts, and accommodation is available in basic cottages or the recently revamped ensuite rooms in the mansion itself.

Boca Raton, Florida

The US is where the tennis camp originated, and Florida is home to numerous high quality camps dedicated to discovering the next great American champion. One of the biggest is the Boca Raton, where Alan Sugar is a regular patron. Featuring 30 clay courts and various clinic and coaching extras, the resort also offers the services of a tennis concierge, who can make court reservations and match you up against players who are at your level of experience.

Florence, Italy

Set in the rolling Tuscan hills, the Florence Tennis School is certainly one of the more picturesque tennis camps in Europe. Accommodation is equally impressive, with apartments and villas on a 14th century estate featuring homemade olive oil and wine. The school has 16 clay and hard courts, and Florence itself is within easy reach.

Standard training is for two hours a day, but there is the option of more grueling ‘Train like a pro’ course designed for those already playing at regional or county level, which features a much more arduous fitness and court training regime.

Abama, Tenerife

Featuring a spa, a golf course and with a 3 Michelin-starred chef, Abama certainly provides the luxury, and with up to six hours coaching a day it can provide an intensity of training suited to an individual’s needs.

The resort features 7 courts, and the site itself is situated between the Atlantic ocean and a striking mountain range, so good views are guaranteed.

Necker Island, British Virgin Islands

For the truly (or insanely!) luxurious tennis experience, Richard Branson’s Caribbean island can be hired out. It features courts and a resident tennis pro, formerly Branson’s personal coach, who is on hand to give round the clock tennis lessons.

The drawback is the price tag – £23,000 a night to hire out the entire island, although this drops to a slightly more affordable £12,000 for a double room for a week (23rd September to 7th October only).
